Mumabai and Navi Mumbai Local Train

The "locals" are the lifeline of Mumbai, and are the fastest way of moving around the city. The locals run along three major sectors, the central line, western line and the harbour line. Commuting in Mumbai by locals is very easy, though it is not advised to take these locals during the office peak hours for outside mumbaikars i.e. from 8.30 am to 10.30 am and from 5.00 to 7.30 pm on weekdays. However these days the locals are always crowded whichever time of the day it is.

The locals are generally "9 Dabbas (Bogie) ", "12 Dabba" and few these days are "15 dabba". There are two ladies compartments followed by first class mens and first class ladies, one placed at the front and one at the back.

The central line starts from CST(Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus) in the south and passes through Majid Bunder, Sandhurst Road, Byculla, Chinchpokli, Currey Road, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion, Kurla, Vidya vihar, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, Nahur, Mulund which fall in Mumbai District and further passes through Thane, Kalwa, Mumbra, Diwa, Kopar, Dombivli, Thakurli, Kalyan, from Kalyan it branches off in two lines, the Karjat/Khopoli Route which diverts from Kalyan through Vitthalwadi, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur, Vangani, Shelu, Neral, Bhivpuri Road, Karjat, Palasdari, Kelavli, Dolavli, Lowjee, and Khopoli, the Kasara route which diverts from Kalyan through Shahad, Ambivli, Titwala, Khadavli, Vasind, Asangaon, Atgaon, Khardi and Kasara. Both fast and slow train services run on these routes.

The western line starts from Churchgate in the South and passes through Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel, Elphinstone Road, Dadar, Matunga Road, Mahim Junction, Bandra, Khar Road, Santacruz, Vile Parle, Andheri, Jogeshwari, Goregaon, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali, Dahisar and extends upto Mira Road, Bhayander, Naigaon, Vasai Road, Nala Sopara, Virar, Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelve Road, Palghar, Umroli, Boisar, Vangaon, and Dahanu Road. Both fast and slow train services run on these routes.

The harbour line starts from CST in the south and passes through Masjid Bunder, Sandhurst Road, Dockyard Road, Reay Road, Cotton Green, Sewri, Wadala, Guru Tej Bahadur Nagar, Chunabhatti, Kurla, Tilak Nagar, Chembur, Govandi, Mankhurd and enters Navi Mumbai through Vashi, Sanpada, Jui Nagar, Nerul, Seawoods(Darave), CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Mansarover, Khandeshwar and Panvel. One branch line also operates from Wadala through King Circle, Mahim, Bandra, Khar Road, Santacruz, Vileparle and Andheri. Train services also operate from Thane through Airoli, Rabale, Ghansoli, Koperkhairane, Turbhe Sanpada and Vashi and branches off at Turbhe through Juinagar, Nerul, Seawoods, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Mansarovar, Khandeshwar and Panvel. Only slow trains run on these routes From CST but from Thane to Panvel the are few fast train at morning and evening
